Sticks and Stars Applesauce

Ingredients
- 2 pears peeled and cored
- 2 apples peeled and cored
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 6 whole cloves
- 2 whole star anise
- 1 stick of cinnamon, about 5cm long
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Cut pears into bite sized chunks.
- Chop apples.
- In a small sauce pan combine pears, apples, lemon juice, sugar, salt, cloves, star anise cinnamon and water.
- Cover and bring to simmer, cook for 10 minutes.
- Uncover and continue to cook until pears are very tender and apples break down to make a thick sauce, 12-15 minutes.
- Remove cloves, cinnamon, and anise.
- Let cool.
